The
Making Of The Man
Rev. Dr. Carl E. King, Sr.
is a native Chicagoan and was raised on Chicago’s Southside
by his parents, Rev. Mack Carl King, Jr. and Edith Blanche
King. He attended Bret Hart Elementary School and De LaSalle
Franciscan High School in Chicago. While waiting at a bus
stop on September 30, 1977 he met the love of his life, and
on September 30, 1978 he married Marilynn R. King.
Rev. Dr. Carl E. King, Sr. and
his wife have raised three wonderful children who love and
serve the Lord. Marjalene K. Kelly, a home maker, is married
to his “son-in-love” Steve Kelly (a trained
and talented musician and preacher) in Arlington, TX. His
second daughter, Anna V. King, is a pre-law student at Roosevelt
University in Chicago and his son, Carl E. King II, is pre-med
at Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL) with aspirations of becoming
a surgeon.
It
takes more than an education to make a man, and more than
a title to make the man a preacher or teacher of God’s
word. However, if only these were needed, Christ Community
Church would have an awesome teacher and preacher in Dr. King,
for he holds in his possession a lengthy list of educational
credits, including a B.A. in Business Administration from
Governors State University, an M.A. from Trinity Evangelical
Divinity School, an M.R.E. and D.Min from Friends International
Christian University, a D.Min from McCormick Theological Seminary,
and countless certificates. Dr. King is currently an Adjunct
Professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, and has held such
positions as Enterprise Zone Administrator for Dolton, IL,
Riverdale, IL, and Calumet City; Zoning Board eight years
(Calumet City); School Board (Calumet City, South Holland,
and Dolton); and Director of Senior Services and Director
of Community & Economic Development (Calumet City), where
he was responsible for managing and procuring community assets
well over $2 million dollars and supervised well over $1 million
dollars.
But it takes more than all of these
things—the degrees and the titles to make a man of God!
It takes the anointing of God, a fresh touch from heaven,
the ability to lead, a heart for God, an ear and sensitivity
for the voice of the Lord, a love for God’s people,
and obedience. Christ Community Church is highly favored and
has been blessed abundantly to have all of these and
more in Dr. Carl E. King, Sr. He is a visionary, leader, and
soldier in God’s army. He has dedicated his life to
sharing with the people of God and those disconnected from
a relationship with Christ the word of God that change would
come in their lives.
Dr. King has served 16 years as
pastor of Christ Community Church. He lives in the very community
he desires to impact for God. Not only does he minister in
this community, but continues to work professionally and fervently
in surrounding communities—teaching, training, and developing
for the glory of God.
